John Spitzberg, an 87-year-old military veteran, was taken into custody in
Washington, D.C., on Friday.
As reported by WCJB, he was among 75 veterans who were peacefully
demonstrating in opposition to Donald Trump’s military parade when they
moved a bike rack and stepped beyond a police barrier.
“Carolina Lumetta, a reporter for WORLD, recorded the arrest and described
the scene: ‘An older veteran was initially brought back to the group but
then made his way past the barrier and onto the Capitol plaza once more.
Although officers offered to escort him back again, he insisted on staying
with the other demonstrators. Eventually, they handcuffed him and placed him
in a police van.
